I've watched season 1 on Netflix, waiting on season 2 to release in English.
But to be completely honest, do you believe there will be a season 3?
After random research of the release times of manga, light novels, and the anime series. Sadly I don't believe it will, no matter how much I would love it to.
The release of the Japanese light novels varies in a strange way, where Volume 3 contains S2-E3. But Volume 7 contains S2-E0. Season 2 having 13 full episodes in total (according to the Japanese release)
Now the Light Novels have had 16 total volumes, the last one released in February 2011. Yen Press (creating the English version for NA sales) won't even have Volume 6 until June 2012.
Season 1's final episode had the original air date in March 2008. Season 2's first episode air date was in July 2009. So a little over a year had passed in between seasons, which sounds reasonable for any anime (or tv series for that matter). Almost 2 years have passed since Season 2's final episode originally aired on September 2009.
Spicy-wolf.com, the official Japanese Spice and Wolf website's last update was in February 2011 (recently) saying that Volume 16 is the final chapter and conclusion to the story of Holo and Lawrence.
Now clearly, there is ton's of material for them to continue the series, even beyond a season 3, but we have no release information on a season 3, not even an announcement of it. And almost a year and a half have passed since the final episode of Season 2 originally aired in Japan.
Even if we buy the Yen Press english novels, at 16 volumes, if it continues at the release pattern so far, we may not see the volume 16 story conclusion until June 2017.
I pray something proves me wrong and that we get information on a season 3 soon,
I can't just have the story end at the last episode of Season 2.
Please tell me what you think or if you know where to find Japanese ratings. If anything the Japanese could be holding us back because of their lack of interest.

I'd absolutely love a season 3. I'd like to think it's still possible. If you're familiar with the series Natsume Yuujinchou, seasons 1 and 2 released back in 2008 and 2009 (just like Spice & Wolf) ... and of course no one thought there would be a third season, but guess what... the third season of Natsume Yuujinchou was just announced to be airing later this year! So I do think it's still possible for Spice & Wolf as well. Here's to hoping...

(ノゝ∀・) 綺羅星☆!!
See, thank you for pointing that out. I don't know if I mentioned it, but I'm not much of an anime person, I have had friends who would watch as much as they could, but it was never something I really got into, I was always the gamer.
So for me to know any similarities in such things is not likely, I do hope for a season 3, this series is absolutely amazing, in every aspect for me.
It is unique and the story development is what I like most. If I want action I'll watch any normal American movie, but for a story like this, it has to be Spice and Wolf.
I agree with you, The last episode of S2 wasn't really an ending, they crammed i way to much into the last episode. but what if they don't come out with a S3 but come out with a S&W movie??? what about that, wouldn't that be a good way to end it? but just like S3 it is just an Idea.
Well no, not really a good way to end it. Each episode is about 20 minutes, the average movie is from 1-2 hours. And each conflict in the story can take place between 2-3 episodes. Considering S2 ended at about Volume 4 of the novel, there are still 12 novels, they couldn't cram everything, and I would surely be disappointed if they tried, or even left anything out.
Yen Press is only releasing 1-2 volumes a year in English, it would be atleast 5 more years until they finished printing the last one, so either way, if there isn't a Season 3 to hold us over, S&W will surely be forgotten before the conclusion would make it in English.
well if they make a movie they could cut out the last books and just tie up the ending so we aren't wondering "whats next?" or "now what?" all I want to see is that the story has an ending and not a cliff hanger. I hate those
I completely agree, I just watched Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom which is another incredible series, and to be honest, another great dub from FUNimation, but sadly the story ends with a massive cliff hanger. All the reviews on netflix are like 4-5 stars but everything said was "I hate the ending". I don't know what it is with these Japanese authors but it seems like they really enjoy depressing endings, and it infuriates me.
The biggest problem is Spice and Wolf is successful, I've checked even Japanese sites and people comment on how much they enjoy it, though there is no information for a Season 3. Maybe Takeo Takahashi is busy with another unannounced project, or maybe even S&W, but I doubt it, his last known project was also completed in 2009.
I still very much hope for more seasons, because this one is great, I hate reading but if that's what it comes down too, then I will have to buy the novels when they are all released, that is... If i still remember this.
My hope is that the fan base stays decently large both here and in japan so that it doesn't get completely forgotten, if the demand is high enough how can they refuse lol
Loneliness is a disease that can lead to death
i think that they will make a third season,
im thinking theyll announce it after S2 comes out on DVD
maybe but it took forever for funi to let us know they were gonna do sw2 so i don't want to get excited prematurely
Loneliness is a disease that can lead to death
Well FUNi doesn't decide whether S&W gets another season. the Spice and Wolf Production Committee in Japan does. Now I don't know if the Japanese anime industry even pays attention to sales outside of their own country.
I was talking to my friend and he mentioned they could have stopped after two seasons and only left it open-ended to get people to buy the manga and light novels to continue the story. If this is the case then they are done, but I've been keeping an eye on all the Spice and Wolf on the Japanese websites and checking on the companies involved in the production committee but nothing about S&W has popped up.
The truth is, we just don't know what these Japanese companies are up to, and considering the recent earthquake, tsunami, and radiation issues, who knows if they will even get to it.
