I'm guessing cost would be the only reason to switch, from a production standpoint or a storage standpoint the cost of BD boxes must of beat out the DVD version.
According to Lance in the previous ANNCast (in the Spring I think), it was mainly because of the request of the retailers. Also the majority of the fans (from a survey) also wanted BD cases.
I really don't care what the size of the boxes/cases are as long as they are consistent, which Funi has never been good at...
Example at the top of my head, FMA: Brotherhood (Blu-ray).
The 5 parts and the movie are Blu-ray sized, while the OVA collection is DVD sized, so it looks off on my shelf.

Also an interesting note that with Stiens;Gate and Strike Witches 2 Funimation has switched to a new more rigid Bluray box (although oddly enough Aria was the old style). It's slightly thicker then the previous box, but I'm a fan since it seems to protect the disks better.
Yeah, series with 2 parts like that have more rigid boxes, where 12-13 episode series are like Aria's box.
