If that old guy doesn't at least beat Kirito's ass a little in the next episode, I'm dropping this. It's like watching a bad .Hack fanfic and I'm just not interested.
It seems I'm not alone here.
While the boss fight was visually appealing, there was very little tension. Did anyone honestly expect Kirito to not win and survive?
Character motivations: almost as bad as that guy not taking a potion in the second episode. While Asuna appeared to be a strong, independent young woman, she turns into a weak girl who needs protecting as soon as a man brings home something to cook. And Kirito is hesitant to reveal his hax skills because he's afraid people will be envious? Is that not the same reason he choose the 'beater' title?
I should stop torturing myself. The only reason I seem to keep going is for the awesome opening by LiSA, and some decent animation. I'd rather watch a show following either Egil or Klein.
You know what, Shop Art Online sounds pretty awesome.
It never ceases to amaze me when someone joins a forum with no other intention then to start sh*t, to get a little attention! Especially when they try to act smart or something by using semi-big words/phrases lmao! Hero's dont need character flaws! Heroines are meant to be strong but know when to let the hero take care of her! The characters and fine, actually their very well done! Especially for this type of anime! NO SHOW WILL EVER BE PERFECT! If your going to complain then make since at least! Don't complain about stuff that has no business in this type of anime. If you must complain then complain there's not enough different consistent characters, complain they jump around too much off the main story of finishing the game, to eat dinner or save a lost pet! But trashing on the main stars only shows you have no clue what their going for in this anime and so if its not up your alley, Don't watch it!! That way we dont have to hear stupidity! You wont see me go onto a One Piece forum and complain because the storyline is dumb the hero's abilities are dumber and the style of animation is poor! No I just dont watch the show!!! Support your favorites and ignore the rest! If anyone knows how to, or if you even can, ignore profiles on this website please let me know Thx!!
Look SAO up on Any website and it is the highest ranking anime in the past 5 years!!! Out of the 3 anime sites I use daily it doesn't have lower then a 4.8 out of 5 rating on any of them, With over 3,000 to 5,000 different ip address votes! And for a brand new anime that's amazing!!! The story line is amazingly well thought out and with the success in today's world of games with virtual worlds like W.o.W, Starcraft, and Diablo 3 this anime is the perfect fit!!!
As for the "character motivations", HE'S THE F*CKING HERO! They are supposed to be strong and save the girl Every episode EVEN the strong girls!! NO hero is ever "honestly expected not to win and survive" That is the whole point of them being the hero!! He helped to create the title beater to draw the attention off the other beta testers, even a child can see that!!! Its better for that one group to not like him, then play out the rest of the game hating all beta testers! And obviously once they all realize he just saved their ass, with SKILLS not any hacks! They won't hate him they will actually like and even envy him!!
I'm sorry I was a little off, I was just guessing about about SAO being the highest ranking Anime over the past "5 years" cause I knew it had a high ranking, But Its Actually the Highest ranking anime OF ALL TIME, on all 3 of the sites that I use that keeps an updated and current rating system!!! But yeah you know this show just sucks, lmao!!! <---- thats called sarcasm!
I'll admit I'm enjoying the show pretty much other than a few qualms, but what Web sites are you referring to, and what is the ranking of? I mean it's sure not Japanese broadcast ratings, is it just subjective like the Crunchyroll 5 star ranking that you are referring to? Because if that is the type of rating you are referring to just take a look at Fate Zero, Puella Magi Madoka Majica, or especially Natsume Yujin-cho's rankings on Crunchyroll (not that that is a really accurate measure though.)
I liked the most recent episode and although I've read that many people think the whole
Spoiler: Highlight to view
dueling over asuna's right to leave the guild for a while
is stupid in that it really has nothing to do with Kirito, I think from the way the higher guilds look
Spoiler: Highlight to view
a vice-lieutenant or whatever her ranking is would not just be allowed to leave (having nothing to do that she is a woman just her important role), and the leader of the guild is just using it as an opportunity to hopefully beat Kirito and get him in their guild.
I feel your pain on the matter Reaper but really as much as even I would love to argue *needlessly* with their poitns. Its just easier to ignore. The importent thing here is that WE ARE enjoying it. Of course your gunna see some things in any show that perhaps are over used. Or even jsut stupid. Ex. I can see the argument that Asuna beign a Vice Lutenette and in the last instent they showed her being the kinda weak character for a bit, but by no means did I think they completely falsified her character in anyway. And when they fought that GLeam Eyes even Kirirto knew that even if he did use hsi double sword skill it wouldn't neccesarily beat him. Had that previous guild army not previously done some damage and Asuna and Klien jump in to help. He would have died and almost did even with theri help. So it not like he is this charcter that was in the line of thinking he knew without a doubt that he could/would win. He had doubts and rightfully so.
Anywho on to a more friendy conversaion to the show. Has anyone else been woundering what that dark guild dude in th ehood was doing watching the challenge match bewtween Kirito and Asuna "body gaurd" back in the town? If this show realy does go past 12 eps their may be a plot that involves a guild out ti kill Kirito. ... perhaps. This is juzst a guess since after the last 2 eps nobody made a mention on the guy.
Eitehr way regardless of thoes who think its just some cheap hack at another show or that it lacks things to be the show I or others who like it thik it to be. Its still an Awsome show and better than most the other shows that are currnetly running right now. SO if you like the show. C'mon and support. If you don't, meh sucks ot be you.
Yeah DragonO I completely agree! And I know, I'm probably not being much better then them when I call them out, especially since I'm pretty open and very blunt with my opinions, so I can come across with a bad attitude myself sometimes! It's just aggravating that no matter how old we all are, or where you live, or what our opinions are. Someone is always just trying to cause trouble for no reason! That's just immature, with no reason for it! But anyway yes back to the important story!
The guy watching Kirito's duel was part of the same PK guild that Griswold hired to kill his wife, the laughing coffins. That's when they first ran into Kirito. Again I agree I think that would be a great twist to see them go after Kirito to try and get all the obvious great items he must have! Mainly to see if he's willing to take a human life to save everyone good from the game(I hope so, as long as its done right!)! As for Asuna I definitely don't feel shes every been weak or under minded in any way! Yes she was going to speak up against Heathcliff but he was talking to Kirito not her, and Kirito felt like he Wants to protect her(and everyone else), which is his whole drive in this show. So he speaks up for her as well as his own honor and agrees to Heathcliffs duel. Which again I think is just a great twist to the show! It would actually suck if she was just able to say ok I want to quit a guild I'm 2nd in command of and walkout like shes all tough sh*t, without any resistance!! No offense but she isnt the hero, she's just a good strong support character!
And to batou01 I'm not trying to get any websites into trouble for infringements(just in case!) or anything like that, but just google anime and pick any popular site that has a Current and updated rating system and see where SAO is on that. Because fan support is what makes animes popular, and then worth money!! Yes I am talking about websites with viewers rating systems in place. Sadly I don't belong to crunchyroll, but that 5 star rating system is what I'm talking about. The ones for best accuracy being the sites that keep track of your IP address and don't let you vote more then once on the same show! Either way I am basing my opinions from an Americans point of view. Which I'm sure, will have different tastes then an Asia point of view. So no I'm not talking about Japanese broad casting stations or even American broadcasting stations because sadly they don't usually have a current, truly viewers choice, rating systems even in place . I really wish they did! Since its the viewers who watch and want to later buy those anime thus making them worth money! So they should at least care which shows are liked and by how many people!
Yeah ther eare clearly gunna be issues within the guild if a 2nd luttente just goes "oh hey I'm taking a break to partnere with someone else for a bit". Your part of a guild so your gunna have some obligations especilly if you a higher rank. Yeah the Lauging Coffign guild. I've been woundring what the purpose was for one of them to be watc hing that fight. Maybe to get revenge for stopiing them from PKing the 3 from eariler. Or like your saying. Maybe they heard he has some rare tmes they want. Could make for a good section of story.
*you'll have ot excuese my vage refreences. I suck at remembering names. Takes me a bit befor I remember them. lol *
I've had my share of shall we sayin "debating" with someone who's views were very diffrent form mine to a point theirs were insulting mine. But regardless of differing in opinion and views its just not wroth the effort to try and get them to see your way. At least im my experince its not. But personally I'm not much of a peaple person either. Best thign we can do is just ignore thoes who don't like the show.
BOT *again* lol, again I'm looking forward ep 10. I don't want to see Kirito lose but I don't realy want a half hearted easy win either I wan tot see it be a chanllenge but to see him still come out the victor.
Oh yeah adn to this

He only choose that title at the beingin becase he was trying to keep everyien form fightin geach other so he made himself a scape goat for the ones wanting the Beta testers to give up everything they had from being being treated badly or even killed. Or worse form thoes not a s strong in th futrue to needlessly go after thoes they become envious of. He didn't wnat to be in that position but chose tod it to save them.
This show is decently entertaining. I wouldn't put it in a favorites list for this year, but it's still better than some that I've seen. I've been following it through Crunchyroll's free streams so I haven't seen episode 9 yet, but it finally looks like things are going to get moving. I really didn't care very much for the side stories of Kirito helping random girl X. More of Kirito and Asuna fighting on the front lines would be good, I want to see some real danger. As of right now, I have to agree with the others that say following a different character would be more interesting; Kirito just fails to interest me, especially compared to some of the other characters.
Ex. I can see the argument that Asuna beign a Vice Lutenette and in the last instent they showed her being the kinda weak character for a bit, but by no means did I think they completely falsified her character in anyway. I don't think that that they were trying to make Asuna look weak in that situation, I think it was meant to put a feeling of hopelessness in being able to save the army dudes. If you recall, in the first boss fight, they had a large group and weren't losing many people. In the fight against Gleam-Eyes, iit had been kicking the army dudes butts and the only backup was herself, Kirito and Kleine. She was just afraid they might not be able to save them, and if it hadn't been for her jumpng in, they probably would have lost more than 3 guys.

It could also be a possibility that Kurageel(I think that's his name), Asuna's ex-bodyguard, could go looking for their help to get revenge against Kirito. He seems like the type of guy who would hold a grudge and it was pretty obvious to him that Kirito far out-classed him. And in the first ep that the Laughing Coffin guild was shown, that dude from the Holy Dragon Alliance recognized the voice of one. It's possible that there could be some underlying plot by that group that hasn't been revealed yet.

I seriously doubt that will be an easy fight for either of them. The guy did tell Kirito that he WANTS him to use his dual-blade skill in their duel and he knows that's how Kirito beat the boss. I can't wait to see what special skill that dude probably has.

A very good point. He did cross as someone whoe holds grudges. And maybe he had them there incase his did lose to kirito. Like Asuna said, there guild started to change a bit once they started to get bigger. SO it would be no suprise to see traitors amungst them.

yeah sorry I think is a slight misunderstanding due to my lack of being able to explain things very well. I was refering to a past comment someone made about Asuna being built up to be strong but then in that instence she's "weak". But I completly undersatd what your saying. THe situation was a dier one. They already knew that they would need to beat th eboss safely. But because of th rational decisions of the other guild they were forced to act in order to save lives. And Kirito forced to reveal his double swords skill to others even though he knew that it wouldn't mena a certian vicotry and if he did succed he'd be hounded by others hoping ot find out how he got it.
And that leads to the upcoming fight. I think the leader of the Blood kights was to see if he can't figure out how he got that skill. Provding of cource he doesn't have it too or some other ability nobody else has. And he just want to test their secret skills agianst each other. But its definetly obvious he's been wanting Kirito to join for a long time and is using this even and the fact Asuna wants to party with Kirito as an excess to get him in the guild. However you look at it I'm hopeing its gunna be a good fight that isn't over in the first few mins of the ep. At least take half the eps to shocase their skills for a bit.
