Okay, I want to know something, maybe someone can help me with this question.
That link shows the cost of what ADV paid for their titles. I want to know...how the hell does anyone make a profit with the prices they pay for the licenses? Even at $60-100 for a set, they would have to sell...*uses Pumpkin Scissors as the example* 7,000-13,000 units to break even. I hardly doubt any anime title is expect to even sell that many and I don't think no title sells that well...and I'm doubtful that they even print off that many.
Why the bloody hell are the Japanese expecting Funimation and Sentai to pay that much for entertainment?
Probably because it cost the Japanese considerably more the make these shows? You do know that Hollywood licenses are far more expensive right? People spend billions every year on entertainment.
A better question might be, why are so many anime fans unwilling to spend any of their money on this entertainment?

As...that didn't really answer my question.
But anime and live action cost about the same. I can spend the same amount on a season of Supernatural as I could for a 26 episode series, or at least by Amazon costs. But as a lot of the stuff is aimed towards teens...but there is a problem with that, most teens into anime and manga don't have jobs.
